Playful Theatre Productions is set to present Les Misérables for three weekends at Kelsey Theatre.
The Tony and Grammy Award-winning blockbuster musical is based on the novel by Victor Hugo, which begins in Paris in 1815 and culminates with the student rebellion of 1832.
The show takes audiences on the journey of Jean Valjean, an honest man driven to steal a loaf of bread for his starving family. The act has far-reaching consequences, condemning Valjean to hard labor for almost two decades.
As he sets about to start a new life, Valjean finds that he cannot keep his past at bay. Javert, a police inspector, continues to track him relentlessly. The characters’ personal sagas are set against the backdrop of revolutionary France.
The show stars Maria Aromando of Bridgewater as Madame Thenardier, Abigail Bastian of Morrisville, Pa., as young Cosette, Elio Lleo of East Windsor as Javert, James Petro of Hamilton as Marius, Michael Scibilia of Willow Grove, Pa., as Jean Valjean, Tressa McCallister Scibilia of Willow Grove, Pa., as Fantine, Samantha Sharpe of Basking Ridge as Eponine, Roman Sohor of Parlin as Monsieur Thenardier and Cat Tierney of Princeton as Cosette.
Les Misérables also features William Kamps of Burlington, Tom Bessellieu of Hamilton, Christopher Kamps, Robert D. Rodriguez and Matthew Staley, Tom Petrino of Hamilton Square, Matthew Dawson of Hillsborough, Karl Weigand of Lawrenceville, Shawn Doremus of Plainsboro, Michael Zweig of Philadelphia, Pa., Simon Hamilton of Princeton, and Noah Barson of Richboro, Pa.
Ensemble members include Jill Bradshaw of Oaklyn, Shannon Brueckner of Howell, Kim Cupo of Fairless Hills, Pa., Vianna Fagel of Lawrenceville, Elizabeth Ferrara of West Windsor, Lucy Fisher of Flemington, Cathryn Hardy of Matawan, Samantha Kamen of Hamilton, Colby Langweiler of New Hope, Pa., Jaimie McMillin of Bordentown, and Joan Zalot of Langhorne, Pa.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. March 28, 29, April 4, 5, 11 and 12; and 2 p.m. March 30, April 6 and 13 at Kelsey Theatre, located on Mercer County Community College’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. A reception with the cast and crew is set to follow the opening night performance on March 28.
