The Lawrence Township Council has approved an ordinance appropriating $2.4 million in capital improvement funds for the township’s 2026 road program.
The capital improvement ordinance does not require issuing new debt or additional taxes, Municipal Manager Kevin Nerwinski said. The money had already been set aside for roadwork.
The road program calls for removing the top layer of asphalt putting down a new layer of asphalt. It is called a mill-and-overlay project. It is expensive than a reconstruction project.
Contracts have not yet been awarded for the road program.
Several streets in the village of Lawrenceville are included in the 2026 road program. Those streets are Titus Avenue, Phillips Avenue, Craven Lane, Gordon Avenue, James Street and George Street.
In the Foxcroft subdivision, off Princeton Pike and Province Line Road, the streets targeted for the mill-and-overlay program include Foxcroft Drive, Teak Lane and Bannister Drive.
Avalon Way and a portion of Federal City Road — from Adams Drive to the Lawrenceville-Pennington Road — are slated for inclusion in the road program.
The Maidenhead Meadows Trail, which is off-road, is listed in the road program. It begins on Meadow Road and meanders to Foxcroft Drive.
A section of Bakers Basin Road, from the Delaware and Raritan Canal to Basin Road, will be given the mill-and-overlay treatment.
In the Colonial Lakes neighborhood, Colonial Lake Drive, Hopatcong Drive and Lucerne Drive have been identified for inclusion in the road program.
Also, Putnam Avenue and a portion of Ohio Avenue in the southern part of the township are part of the road program.
Karena Lane, Alexandria Court, Anthony Lane and Garry Court are also included.
