Lawrence Township Public Schools was named a finalist in the 2014 National Schools of Character program.

LTPS is one of 50 schools and districts in the country to earn the Character Education Partnership’s distinction.

The NSOC program recognizes schools and districts that demonstrated, through a rigorous evaluation process, that character development had a positive impact on academics, student behavior, and school climate.

In January 2014, LTPS received word from the New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional and Character Development that it had selected LTPS as a 2014 New Jersey District of Character. LTPS will maintain this status for three years and its application was forwarded to the CEP in Washington, D.C. for consideration in the national program.

LTPS is set to be honored at a special recognition ceremony during the NJASECD Annual Conference at Rider University on March 19.

National finalists are in the running for National School (District) of Character recognition.

In March and April, each finalist will undergo an intensive screening process that includes site visits, conference calls, and analysis of the impact of their character-related efforts on academics, student behavior and school culture as part of the consideration.

CEP is set to announce the 2014 National Schools (Districts) of Character in May. CEP plans to honor these schools and districts at the 20th National Forum on Character Education on Oct. 30 in Washington, D.C.
