Trenton Water Works lifted its boil water advisory for its customers in Trenton, Ewing, Hamilton, Hopewell and Lawrence at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, after laboratory testing confirmed water from the TWW system met safety standards.

TWW issued a boil water advisory before 7 a.m. yesterday, Sept. 27, after an equipment malfunction left chlorine levels too low. Chlorine is used to disinfect the water, and make it safe to consume.

TWW initially predicted the advisory to last just a few hours. A TWW spokesman, when contacted by Community News, confirmed yesterday afternoon that the equipment issue had been fixed but the boil water advisory had to stretch into a second day while the utility awaited testing results from its lab. Those results were finally returned this afternoon, with TWW giving the all-clear just after 2 p.m.

TWW, in a statement, gave the following tips for its customers to ensure their safety with the advisory lifted:

Run your water faucets for 3-5 minutes to flush your service connection and interiorplumbing with water from the service main.Empty and clean your automatic ice makers and water chillers.Drain and refill your hot water heater if the temperature is set below 113 degrees fahrenheit.Service connections with a water softener/cartridge filters should be run through a regenerationcycle or other procedures recommended by the manufacturer.Water reservoirs in tall buildings should be drained and refilled (as applicable).
