Lawrence Intermediate School and Middle School students presented 99 projects at the fifth annual Science and Engineering Fair on Feb. 22.
In addition to displays from 152 students, several community partners presented demonstrations during the fair at LIS.
Representatives from Rider University, the College of New Jersey, LIS robotics program, Lawrence High School STEM Academy, NJ AmeriCorps Ambassadors for the Delaware River Basin and the American Chemical Society staffed demonstration tables.
In addition to providing hands-on demonstrations, LHS STEM students played a vital role in mentoring fair participants.
Judges from local colleges, businesses and institutions evaluated each student project. Judges interviewed each student, asking questions regarding the inspiration and design for their project.
Although he was not able to attend due to other commitments, Representative Rush Holt sent a letter of support and encouragement to the school.
“As a physicist and former educator myself, I know how important hands on learning can be, especially when it involves scientific projects” Holt wrote, “I want to commend the teachers and students who have been involved in this project and wish the best of luck to all the participants.”
