A Hopewell Valley Central High School student was arrested yesterday for allegedly physically assaulting multiple school employees, according to a statement from Hopewell Township police.

Police responded to a reported assault at the school yesterday at approximately 1:47 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they confirmed that a 15-year-old male student had assaulted employees, according to the statement.

As officers attempted to place the student under arrest, he resisted and punched Officer Brian Dendis in the face causing a minor injury, police said. The juvenile also spit at Sgt. James Rosso and school staff during the incident.

After being taken into custody, police said the student was transported to the Hopewell Township Police Department for processing. He will be charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault against law enforcement officers and school personnel. He will also be charged with resisting arrest. These charges will be forwarded to the Mercer County Family Court for review.

The high school went into a temporary building freeze during this incident. A building freeze allows classes to continue as usual, however pedestrian movement in the hallways is restricted. The building freeze was lifted shortly after the juvenile was in custody.
