Hopewell Valley Chorus names scholarship winner

The Hopewell Valley Chorus has announced the 2017 winner of its annually awarded scholarship. Laura Zoog, of Pennington, was named the winner.

The chorus has awarded the scholarship since 1973 to a college-bound, high school senior, who resides in the Hopewell Valley. Applicants should be talented musicians, including singers, instrumentalists, composers or technologists planning to continue their music as a hobby or career.

For her audition, Laura performed a song from the musical Dogfight. The chorus will give the award at its spring concert, to be held on May 12, at St. James Church, 115 E. Delaware, Ave. in Pennington. Zoog will sing “Pretty Funny” for the concert audience that evening. Drummer Gian Lombardo, also of Pennington, will accompany the chorus in the concert finale.

HVC is also planning an all-day ice cream social to benefit the scholarship fund. The event will take place Friday, May 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Uncle Ed’s Creamery, 155 W. Delaware Ave., Pennington.
