A Night of Jazz, a fundraising event featuring the Clifford Adams Quartet with special guest Doris Spears, is set to benefit Parents Count.
The fundraiser is scheduled for 7 to 9:30 p.m. May 3 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton, 50 Cherry Hill Road, Princeton.
Clifford Adams has played live jazz since he was 17 years old and performed with Patti Labelle and the Bluebells. In 1973, Adams was with the horn section during the Stylistics world tour. Later, he performed with Kool and the Gang and his trombone solo can be heard in the song “Joanna.”
He has since recorded a number of solo albums including The Master Power, Cliff Notes and Love’s Gonna Get You.
The Clifford Adams Jazz Quartet includes leader Adams on trombone, Alan Nelson on drums, Michael Cochrane on piano and Marcus McLaurine on bass.
Doris Spears also began her music career at 17. She got her start in Chicago jazz clubs and concert halls with musicians such as Von Freeman, Lefty Bates and Vernell Fournier.
In the 1980s, Spears toured with Lionel Hampton. She is a songwriter and has recorded a number of solo tracks.
Along with live music, the event is set to feature hors d’oeuvres, 50/50 raffles and door prizes.
