Hamilton Mayor Jeff Martin welcomed Matakas Jiu Jitsu with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new Hamilton location on Friday, Nov. 14.

Matakas Jiu Jitsu’s second location, and first in Hamilton, is now located in the Clover Plaza on Quakerbridge Road. Matakas Jiu Jitsu is owned by lifelong Hamilton resident and Steinert High School graduate Chris Matakas, who says he is excited to bring world-class Jiu Jitsu instruction to his hometown community.

Matakas founded the original Matakas Jiu Jitsu Academy in Florence in 2017. A 2nd-degree black belt, competitive champion, and 15-time author, Matakas has earned recognition for helping shift the global jiu jitsu community toward a deeper emphasis on mindset, character and personal growth.

“We’re thrilled to return to the community that shaped us and offer a place where both kids and adults can grow stronger—physically, mentally, and emotionally—through jiu jitsu,” Matakas said.

The new Hamilton location offers programs for all ages, beginning with Tiny Tykes (ages 4–5), youth programs and a full adult curriculum. Whether students are looking to build confidence, learn practical self-defense, or pursue athletic competition, Matakas Jiu Jitsu seeks to provide a supportive and structured environment.

Matakas Jiu Jitsu is now open. Matakas and lead instructor Jim O’Boyle are currently welcoming new members. Web: matakasbjj.com.
