Each year, local nonprofit HomeFront sets out to provide ingredients for a full and festive Thanksgiving dinner for needy families.
HomeFront asks individuals, families, groups, houses of worship and corporations to donate baskets filled with all the trimmings for a traditional home-cooked Thanksgiving meal.
This year, the organization’s goal is to provide enough food for 1,000 families.
Participants in the Thanksgiving Drive are urged to add a little “extra” to each basket, such as cans of tuna, soup, peanut butter and other essentials to help needy families when Thanksgiving leftovers are finished.
Filled baskets can be dropped off from now until Nov. 21 at HomeFront’s offices, 1880 Princeton Ave., Lawrenceville. The office is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday.
Over the years, HomeFront has seen an increase in the number of requests for assistance from families facing crisis. On “Food Days,” the organization gives out food packages to more than 900 clients per month; and each day an increasing number of new clients are unable to feed their families.
