Boys & Girls Club to implement STEM program

NRG Energy recently donated $20,000 to help implement a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education and career exploration program at the Boys & Girls Club of Mercer County.

The donation is set to used to fund STEM programs and educational activities to 1,000 youths who participate in the club’s after-school, summer camp and teen programs during the 2013-14 year.

Programs are designed to give club members specialized education and skills in order to increase their educational achievements in mathematics and science, and allow them to explore STEM-related career opportunities.

“We are delighted to receive the NRG grant which will support our STEM programs and help increase the number of Club members graduating from high school and entering the workforce,” David E. Anderson, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club, said in a statement.

The Boys & Girls Club of Mercer County has been providing children and teens with educational, career and enrichment activities through after-school, weekend, and summer programs since 1937. Today, the club provides programs and services to 2,300 youth each year at 17 program locations.
