A Trenton pastor has been arrested on multiple counts of sexual assault involving a 16-year-old victim, authorities said.

Charles B. Brinson, 64, of Trenton, was arrested at his home on Feb. 19. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault of an incapacitated victim and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, said Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey in a news release.

The charges are the result of a joint investigation by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Trenton Police Department.

Brinson is the bishop of Brinson Memorial Church, Inc., located on Brinton Avenue in Trenton. Prosecutors have filed a motion to detain Brinson pending trial

According to the prosecutor’s office, the victim contacted Trenton police in February 2024, alleging that Brinson had sexually assaulted the minor on separate occasions in January and February of that year at Brinson’s residence in Trenton.

The assaults allegedly occurred after Brinson administered an unknown substance that caused the victim to lose consciousness.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit Sgt. Sherika Salmon at (609) 960-3119 or Det. Michael Staton at (609) 989-6350. Information can also be emailed to mcposvu@mercercounty.org.
