Share My Meals, a Princeton-based nonprofit focused on reducing food waste and fighting hunger, has recovered and delivered 500,000 meals since launching its program in 2021.
The milestone was reached earlier this month and reflects the organization’s growing logistics-driven model that connects surplus prepared meals from corporations, schools, universities and hospitals directly to people facing food insecurity.
“Recovering 500,000 meals is more than a statistic; it demonstrates that our meal recovery model works safely and efficiently,” said Hélène Lanctuit, CEO of Share My Meals. “While we celebrate this milestone, our focus remains on the thousands of families still facing food insecurity.”
The organization said the recovered meals have been delivered to seniors on fixed incomes, families and local nonprofit partners, while also diverting hundreds of tons of food from landfills and reducing methane emissions.
Share My Meals launched its meal recovery program in 2021 after being founded in January 2020.
The nonprofit serves as a logistical bridge between large-scale food donors and community organizations working on the front lines of hunger relief. It is also the lead agency behind the New Jersey Meal Recovery Coalition.
To mark the achievement, the organization is launching a February campaign titled “500,000 Reasons to Love Our Community.”
The initiative includes a “Double the Love” donor appeal to support spring operations and a volunteer appreciation event scheduled for Feb. 13 at Dorothea’s House in Princeton.
