Senate President Steve Sweeney was honored by Rider University’s Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at the institute’s biennial gala Friday evening. Senator Sweeney was selected to receive the Rebovich Legislative Award, named after the late David Rebovich, the highly-respected political professor and founder of the Institute that is now named in his honor.

Senator Sweeney congratulated the other honorees, including Congressman Thomas MacArthur who received the Citizenship Award, Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes who received the Leadership Award and New Jersey Business and Industry Association President Michele Siekerka who received the Corporate Neighbor Award.

Founded in 2001 by Rebovich, who passed away in 2007, the Institute assists students with research projects, internships, service learning opportunities, job placement, and overall career development. Ben Dworkin was named director in 2008.

The Rebovich Gala, held at the Greenacres Country Club in Lawrenceville, supports student intern scholarships and civic programming.
