St. Francis Medical Center staff celebrated several weeks of events, competitions, rallies and support surrounding the American Heart Association Mercer County Heart Walk Sept. 7.

St. Francis Medical Center interim president and CEO Christy Stephenson and past CEO Judy Persichilli, who is president emeritus of CHE Trinity Health Inc., co-chaired this year’s Heart Walk.

Throughout the weeks leading up to the event, captains rallied their colleagues to join teams, donate to the cause and sign up to walk.

Outside the hospital, the St. Francis Medical Center Softball Team competed in the My Heart My Life softball tournament. This was a week-long tournament that also supported the American Heart Association and the Heart Walk. St. Francis made it to the championship game in their bracket and finished in second place.

Then, on Sept. 7 more than 200 walkers from St. Francis Medical Center joined the almost 4,000 people who came to support the Heart Walk.

Stephenson and Persichilli addressed the crowd and prepared them for the day ahead. In addition, St. Francis Director of Mission and Ministry, Russ Hansel, received a LifeStyle Change Award sponsored by New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company. This award recognized individuals who made significant changes in their lifestyle in the name of heart health.

St. Francis Medical Center is known as the Heart Hospital and is the only state-recognized Regional Cardiac Center in Mercer County offering the Highest Level of Cardiovascular Care from Diagnostics to Treatment. In continued support of the American Heart Association, St. Francis will be providing educators to travel with the American Heart Association and provide health and stroke education to the surrounding business community.
