Rider students to present Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Rider University’s musical theatre students are set to present Seven Brides for Seven Brothers April 24 through 28.

Performances are scheduled for the school’s Bart Luedeke Center Theater, 2083 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville.

Based on the 1954 movie, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is about a young bride named Milly who lives in the 1850s Oregon wilderness. She plans to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law to ensure the success of her own marriage, but Milly’s plan backfires and the brothers kidnap women from neighboring towns to be their brides.

The Rider production is directed by Robin Lewis with Nathan Hurwitz as musical director.

Lewis’ Broadway credits include Fosse, Beauty and the Beast, A Christmas Carol at Madison Square Garden and the first national tours of Victor/Victoria and The Producers. He choreographed work Richard Linklater’s film BERNIE, starring Shirley MacLaine and Jack Black.

Along with other critical awards, Lewis earned the Kennedy Center/ACTF Excellence in Choreography recognition.

Hurwitz’s career spans from Broadway to regional theatres to the concert halls of Europe. His Broadway credits include Blood Brothers, Dream and Phantom of the Opera.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 25, 26 and 27 and 2 p.m. April 27 and 28.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors and can be purchased online, by phone or at the door.

General admission preview tickets are $9 and are only available at the door.
