When Lawrence Intermediate School students and staff returned after the holidays, new Class III Officer Mike Cseremsak was there to greet them.

Cseremsak has replaced officer Matt Nemes who resigned his position Nov. 21 to pursue another opportunity.

Cseremsak grew up in Trenton and graduated from McCorristin High School. He retired with the rank of sergeant from the Hopewell Police Department in July 2017 after 30 years of service. He spent many years in the traffic unit as a patrol officer and later as the traffic sergeant. He designed a summer Youth Police Academy in 2007 that continues to this day.

Additionally, he participated in the Adopt-a-Cop program and was assigned to a second grade class of Hopewell Elementary. He has had advanced training at the FBI National Academy. After retiring, Cseremsak became a public safety officer at the Institute for Advance Study in Princeton.

“The safety of our children is our greatest responsibility and we are dedicated to our students’ well-being,” superintendent Ross Kasun said in a statement. “We are pleased Mike has joined our SRO and other Class III officer as part of our intensified focus on safety and security for the benefit of our students and staff.”

Within Lawrence Township Public Schools, Cseremsak joins Suzanne Girard, student resource officer at Lawrence High School and Rick Doldy, class III officer at Lawrence Middle School. Both Suzanne and Rick started at their respective schools in September 2018.
