LMS named School of Character

“The New Jersey Alliance for Social Emotional and Character Development recognized Lawrence Middle School Feb. 1.

LMS was names a 2013 New Jersey School of Character and will remain that status until 2015.

As a State School of Character, LMS’s application was be forwarded to the Character Education Partnership in Washington D.C. to be considered for the National Schools of Character Program.

Schools are recognized, on the national and state level, based on their adherence to CEP’s Eleven Principals of Effective Character Education.

The principals include promoting core ethical and performance values as the foundation of good character, creating a caring community and fostering self-motivation.

LMS joins Ben Franklin Elementary, Lawrence Intermediate, Slackwood Elementary, Eldridge Park Elementary and Lawrenceville Elementary, which are also New Jersey Schools of Character.

Superintendent Crystal Edwards said she is proud of the students and staff at LMS and Principal Mindy Milavsky’s dedication to developing good character.

“Under the leadership of Principal Mindy Milavsky, the school’s focus is not only on academic achievement but is also on the whole child as well through character development. I am thrilled their hard work towards helping our children become productive, informed, and actively involved citizens is noted for this prestigious recognition,” Edwards said in a statement.
