Lawrenceville resident Ann Walker served as a New Jersey delegate at biennial Convention of International Chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization Sisterhood in Dallas, Texas in September.
After the convention, Walker reported back to Chapter AM in Pennington, which she belongs to.
P.E.O. completes a campaign to raise more than $35 million for Cottey College, a fully-accredited, private, residential liberal arts and sciences college for women owned and supported by the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Nevada, Mo.
Cottey College fosters ambition and leadership skills in a strong learning environment, offers experiences in fine and performing arts and an international trip for all students.
P.E.O. International supports the education of women through low interest rate loans to women studying at accredited institutions, as well as need-based grants to women continuing their education after time away.
The organization offers competitive merit-based scholarships for women in the U.S. and Canada: STAR scholarship for post secondary education of exceptional high school seniors and Scholar Award for women pursuing doctoral level degrees.
Local chapters have recently supported women studying at Rider University, Mercer County Community College and Raritan Valley Community College.
Chapter AM organized a yard sale in October that raised more than $1,800 for these projects. Unsold household items from the sale were donated to Homefront.
