Lawrence Hamnett Soccer Association U11 Lions volunteered at the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank in Ewing May 3.

The first Saturday of each month is open for volunteers to assist in sorting and repackaging donated food.

Mercer Street Friends community resource liaison Brian Peterson was amazed by the Lion’s teamwork.

“The young athletes were presented with the challenge of repackaging bulk pasta and right away they assigned each other smaller tasks and worked together as a team.” Peterson said, “in less than three hours later, they were very proud to see their accomplishment, over a half ton of pasta was finished.”

The Lions are set to hold tryouts 6-7:30 p.m. May 20, 22 and 27 at Village Park, Gordon Avenue entrance. The team is open to boys born between Aug. 1, 2002 and July 31, 2003
