Lawrence High School students will go head to head in a singing competition modeled after American Idol.

The school’s DECA students are hosting LHS Idol to raise money for an non-profit organization called charity: water.

LHS students David Eggert and Andrew Moldoff are set to host the event, which not only raises funds, but also spreads awareness about charity: water.

The organization’s mission is to build and repair wells in third-world countries that are forced to drink water that is filled with bacteria and diseases, including HIV/AIDS.

“Approximately 30,000 people die each week due to dirty drinking water. Once we hear staggering statistics like this, we knew we had to do something to help all of these innocent people.” Eggert said in a statement.

DECA students plan on donating all proceeds to charity: water.

LHS Idol is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 6.

Tickets are $5 at the door.
