Author discusses friendship at Lawrenceville Elementary

Lawrence Elementary School students gathered for an assembly with author Julia Cook on Dec. 11.

Cook is know for known for tackling social skills one character. He books include My Mouth is a Volcano, Comfortable in Your Own Feathers and Personal Space Camp.

Cook spoke to students about what it means to make and be a good friend. She told students making friends is not about quantity, but the quality of the relationship.

Cook says it is important to teach children the true meaning of friendship by example and by providing them the opportunity to have one-on-one relationships with their peers.

While serving as an elementary school guidance counselor in Nebraska, Cook often used children’s books to break down complex issues for her students. Having authored more than 57 children’s books to date, She continues to actively engage young readers through fun and creative stories that teach them to become “life-long problem solvers.”
