Local author and illustrator Rashad Malik Davis is set to sign copies of his new children’s book, Carefree, Like Me! Chapter 1: Root the Brave at an event Aug. 12, 2017 at Classics Books in Trenton from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Davis, a Lawrence resident, says he wrote the series to teach kids “to understand the importance of empathy, the value of understanding their emotional lives and the beauty of cultural diversity.” Root the Brave tackles fear.

The story follows two best friends who get magically pulled into the spirit world, where they realize they can’t get back home. They quickly learn that the only way to get back is to use their emotional intelligence to help seven heroes who are emotionally out of balance. Each hero (and each book in the series) represented a different emotion and chakra, introducing children to Buddhist and Hindu belief systems.

Classics Books is located at 4 West Lafayette St., Trenton. For more information, visit ramalikillustrations.com or find Davis on social media at @RashadMDavis (Twitter) or @Ramalik_illustrations (Instagram).
