There were no surprises, with the exception of the Mercer County Board of County Commissioners, in the results of the June 2 Democratic and Republican primary contests.

In a three-way contest for the Democratic Party’s nomination for two open seats on the Board of County Commissioners, voters chose incumbent Commissioner Lucylle Walter and newcomer Nakia White Barr over incumbent Commissioner John Cimino.

Barr was the top vote-getter with 20,132 votes and Walter placed second with 19,136 votes. Cimino trailed with 15,129 votes.

Barr and Walter will face Republican Party candidates Shaolin Brown and Donald Ober in the Nov. 3 general election for the two open seats on the Board of County Commissioners.

Brown and Ober ran unopposed for the Republican Party nomination. Brown received 4,778 votes and Ober earned 4,942 votes.

Incumbent Mercer County Sheriff John “Jack” Kemler, who is a Democrat, will square off against Republican Party nominee David Meiswinkle. Both men ran unopposed.

Kemler got 30,093 votes and Meiswinkle received 5,533 votes.

Incumbent Mercer County Surrogate Diane Gerofsky, who is a Democrat, will face Republican Party nominee Priscilla DeVine. Both women ran unopposed for their party’s nomination.

Gerofsky received 29,745 votes and DeVine earned 5,508 votes.

The Mercer County Surrogate’s Office handles the filing of the Will after a person dies. It also appoints an estate administrator if a person dies without having prepared a Will.

The Surrogate also handles applications to appoint a guardian for incapacitated adults and for minors.

Finally, the Surrogate serves as the Deputy Clerk for Superior Court for all adoptions in Mercer County, including processing paperwork, scheduling hearings and sealing records.

All primary election results are unofficial. They have not been certified by the Mercer County Clerk’s Office.
