In September, the Pennington School formally installed William S. Hawkey as its 23rd headmaster.

Hawkey joined the Pennington faculty in 1982 and most recently held the position of associate head of school and dean of faculty. He assumed his current duties on July 1.

The event began an academic procession of administration, faculty and trustees, an invocation by Chaplain Aaron Twitchell, and an a capella rendering of the national anthem performed by senior Stephanie P. Tabas.

Hawkey’s address focused on “The Pennington Experience,” which he defined by three characteristics community, collaboration and respect.

Hawkey is a native of Pennington. He earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and human development at the University of Vermont and master’s degrees in counseling psychology and school psychology and a doctorate from Temple University.
