Gallery 14 is set to exhibit work by two local photographers.

The upcoming exhibition features photographs by Martha Weintraub and David Wurtzel. The artists have also collaborated on a photograph titled Ghost Rising.

For her exhibition, called Story Hour, Weintraub created photographs inspired by picture book illustrations.

Some of the images evoke memories of well-known children’s stories and poems. Other images are not related to any known stories but come from Weintraub’s imagination.

The models in many of the images are Weintraub’s granddaughters, six-year-old Natalie and three-year-old Miranda.

As a professional writer and editor of children’s textbooks, Weintraub was been involved with making decisions on the use of photographic images during the course of her career. She began taking serious photographs of her own when a friend gave her a single lens reflex film camera.

Weintraub’s work has been shown at Phillips Mill Photography Exhibit, Grounds for Sculpture Photography Exhibit, Artsbridge at Prallsville Mills Exhibit, and the New Orleans Photo Alliance Gallery. Her entry in COLOR Magazine’s Portfolio Contest 2011 was selected for a Spotlight Award. Her image City of Books was Best in Show at Philips Mill in 2012.

She is also the current president of Gallery 14.

Wurtzel’s exhibition is called Other Stories.

The display features photos created in the camera, various techniques, such as double exposure, very long exposure and very short exposure.

Viewers are invited to created their own narrative based on the images.

Wurtzel has been active in photography since the late 1940s. He began in his father’s darkroom and maintains one of his own to this day. He has exhibited locally.

Wurtzel and Weintraub’s displays are scheduled to be on display May 23 to June 22. An opening reception is set for 6 to 8 p.m. May 23 and an opportunity to meet the photographers is set for 1 to 3 p.m. May 25.

Gallery 14 is located at 14 Mercer St., Hopewell.
