There’s no receptionist at Classy Clippers. Instead, customers call and make appointments directly with their own stylists.
That’s part of owner Linda Yanucil’s drive to make going to the salon a customer-friendly (and classy) experience.
“I think one of the biggest selling points of this business is that it’s small,” she said.
A customer might have to schedule an appointment with a receptionist at a larger salon. A customer probably wouldn’t be offered free coffee, tea, water or cake while waiting at a larger salon, but Yanucil strives to make sure that customers at Classy Clippers are.
Yanucil has worked at the same location for 25 years. When she first started, the business was called Haircutters Etcetera and was owned by two barbers.
She purchased the business in 1994 and renamed it. Yanucil has worked in the beauty industry since 1980, though she spend a few years at home after her children were born.
Yanucil got a bit of a break when she was looking to re-enter the work force. One of the stylists at Haircutters Etcetera was leaving to pursue another career, meaning Yanucil inherited both his chair and his following.
Today she is focused on taking care of her customers. Classy Clippers serves every age group and offers a number of services, including extensions, perms, cuts, facial waxing, high and lowlights, and color corrections, and Yanucil said she hand her stylists regularly attend classes to stay up-to-date on the latest styles.
Yanucil said she enjoys the challenge of working with different customers, the various challenges they offer and the fact that she gets to use her creativity to meet those challenges. She also enjoys the personal connections she makes with her customers.
“You know your clients better than your families,” she said, adding that they know everything going on in her life, too.
Classy Clippers also does men’s hair cuts, though it is staffed solely by women. Yanucil welcomes the business, since men tend to get their hair cut more often than women, she said.
Unlike many salons, which are closed on Mondays, Classy Clippers is open seven days a week. Yanucil said this is another customer-friendly custom, and a way to accommodate all of their clients.
Located at 728 Estates Blvd. in Hamilton, Yanucil said she enjoys operating in town. Though it is a large municipality, Yanucil said, “it has a small-town feel.”
Yanucil said Classy Clippers also gets business from surrounding areas like Lawrence and Ewing. Yanucil herself is a resident, and she grew up in the area, graduating from Trenton Central High School in 1967. She has raised three children and has four grandchildren.
