Kisthardt Elementary School kindergarten, first and second grade students and their parents participated in a a morning of books and breakfast treats on Nov. 21.

During Bagels and Books, Title 1 teachers at the school invited parents to an informational session on reading. The focus was to teach about strategies for reading to children, selecting appropriately leveled books and establishing daily 20 minute reading sessions at home.

At the conclusion of the session, parents helped their children select a “just right” book to add to their home libraries.

Bagels and Books is part of the initiative to reach out to parents and families in an effort to promote academic success.

The Title 1 program in Hamilton hosts a series of evening family events throughout the school year, each dealing with a different topic. Past events have included Don’t Let Homework Scare You, Math is Winter-Wonderful and Oh, The Places You’ll Go… When You Visit the Library.
