Two females died following a house fire Thursday morning on Lynwood Avenue in Hamilton Township, officials said.

Fire and police were dispatched to the 200 block of Lynwood Avenue at about 6 a.m. June 26 in response to a structure fire.

Upon arrival, a juvenile girl who had escaped the home alerted first responders that her sister and grandmother were still inside, according to police.

Hamilton Fire Department personnel entered the home and found the two females in separate second-floor bedrooms.

Both victims were removed from the residence and given emergency medical care before being transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. They died the following day from injuries sustained in the fire, police said.

The juvenile who initially escaped was assisted out of a second-floor window by a neighbor. She was taken to Capital Health and later released.

Authorities said the fire began in a first-floor room and was ruled accidental.

Hamilton police thanked the Hamilton Fire Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact Detective Chris Pullen of the Hamilton Police Division’s Major Crimes Unit at (609) 689-5822 or the Hamilton Police Crime Tip Hotline at (609) 581-4008.
