Hamilton Schools Roundup: Morgan, Yardville earn state honors

Character.org

, a national advocate and leader for the character education movement in collaboration with NJASECD, named Morgan Elementary and Yardville Elementary Schools 2017 New Jersey Schools of Character. The program recognized both schools as schools that have demonstrated their use of character development to drive a positive impact on academics, student behavior and school climate.

Morgan School has 325 students in preschool through grade five. Yardville School has 300 students in preschool through grade five. Principals Regina McIntyre and Elena Manning, in collaboration with their school counselors, Ashley LaRose and Jennifer Braverman, lead the character education programs in their schools. Both the Morgan and Yardville School communities have been actively participating in the district’s character education program since the late 1990s.

Since its inception, Character.org has awarded more than 500 schools with the distinction of State School of Character. Morgan Elementary and Yardville Elementary were two of 80 schools recognized across the nation in 2017. Criteria for the designation are based on Character.org’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education, which includes providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership and engaging families and communities as partners in character-building efforts.

Steinert Class of ’77 to hold reunion in April

The Steinert High School Class of 1977 will hold its 40th reunion on April 22 at The Hilton Garden Inn, 800 Route 130, in Hamilton.

An open bar/cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner, dancing, and a cash bar at 7 p.m. A DJ will provide music; in addition a photo booth will be at the event.
