Lydia Wu has been dancing at Ballet Central New Jersey for three years, taking classes in ballet, pointe, modern, and character. This year, however, she wanted to use her art to help those in need.
In addition to dance, the Princeton Day School junior volunteers with the Red Cross, and monitors her school’s American Red Cross club. “I came up with the idea of donating a portion of the proceeds from our spring performance to the American Red Cross,” Wu said in a press release. “This way, not only will my fellow dancers and I be performing for people around the area, but our efforts can also make a change in the world and potentially save lives.”
Ballet Central New Jersey will present “Crimson Premieres” at Villa Victoria Academy Theater in Ewing on Saturday, June 9 at 4 p.m. Internationally-renowned guest artists Mary Carmen Catoya, a prima ballerina of Arts Ballet Theater, and Kleber Rebello, a principal dancer with Miami City Ballet, will be performing.
“Crimson Premieres” also features the famous ballet Paquita and two original contemporary and ballet works, Venia and Come One, Come All.
Catoya said in a statement that the goal of the event is to “expose our dancers and audience to a higher level of dancing that the area doesn’t usually see. The show, ‘Crimson Premieres,’ will be a New York City show here in central New Jersey.”
Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for seniors and children. A portion of the tickets sales will benefit the American Red Cross. To purchase tickets, visit balletcnj.org.
