The Plainsboro Library’s Artists’ Group is holding its annual exhibit, “Art & Music,” with a wide variety of mediums including acrylic, oil and watercolor painting, ink and charcoal drawing, collage, embroidery, prints, and a video short. The show runs through Aug. 1.
The exhibit includes work by West Windsor and Plainsboro artists Liz Adams, Vimala Arunachalam, Leena Bagawde, Susan Freeman, Patrick Goldsmith, Bhagyashri Guhagarkar, Sonal Hongekar, Donna Kaye, Lavinia Kumar, Kathleen Hurley Liao, Sweety Mehta, Sandhya Modi, David Olson, Sheela Raj, Pratibha Raju, J. Marion Simmons, Donna Senopoulos, and Chanika Svetvilas.
The artists’ interpretations range from representational to abstract. Arunachalam’s “Play for Me,” an oil painting of a young man playing guitar, is rich in tones and fine detail.
Some of the art plays music, too. Senopoulos’ “No Rain,” a song by the 90’s neo-psychedelic rock group Blind Melon, is an entirely abstract work made from blending alcohol based inks; the composition is enhanced with guitar strings screwed into and woven over the composition.
Adams’ “The Cellist” is an embroidery piece with exquisite detail. There is also one video short by Svetvilas, called “See with your ears. Hear with your eyes.”
The Plainsboro Library Artists’ Group is open to all area adult artists, professional and amateur, and provides an opportunity to critique artwork and to network. The group meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the library.
