Marguerite Girandola and Bobby Costa, grade 5 students at Village School helped principal Brian Stevens start the school year by reading an affirmative of friendship and launching the “Word of the Week” program. Girandola and Costa asked their classmates to think about the word “dependable” and Stevens told them to seek out and make new “dependable” friends.

Grades 4 and 5 students in the district celebrate character education featuring a monthly theme throughout the school year. Students participate in a variety of activities including friendship; citizenship; respecting self and others; caring; responsibility; honesty; courage; respecting the earth; and teamwork. The program is coordinated at Village School by Alice Eckel and at Millstone River School by Megan Dewan.
