Authorities have arrested a suspect wanted in association with an attempted bank robbery in West Windsor on Oct. 29.

Arrested was Mark E. Elbaum, 52, of Hillsborough for the attempted robbery at Santander Bank at 44 Princeton-Hightstown Road.

According to Lt. Mark Lee, Elbaum allegedly entered the bank at 10:14 a.m. and unsuccessfully attempted a robbery before fleeing the scene. He was described by authorities as the “round-faced multiple chinned robber.”

A short time later, at 10:50 a.m., Elbaum allegedly struck again, robing the Valley National Bank on Route 27 in North Brunswick.

An investigation by authorities, including West Windsor Police patrol and detectives, the FBI, the North Brunswick Police, Bridgewater Police, Hillsborough Police, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and Mercer County Prosecutors Office resulted in the arrest of Elbaum at 6:30 p.m. that evening.

“Thanks to cooperative, collective and extensive effort from many different law enforcement agencies, the robber was identified… and he was taken into custody without incident,” said Lt. Lee.

“On behalf of Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri and Chief Robert Garofalo, we would like to thank our public for being so involved in assisting bringing this individual to justice. In addition, the work of all of the investigators and officers involved was exemplary,” Lt. Lee said.

Police did not release any additional information on the crime due to it being an active investigation.
