The West Windsor Bike and Pedestrian Alliance has taken to the streets to promote township action to make its roadways safer for those who travel by means other than automobiles.

The organization held a “”Walk to the Train Station”” on Tuesday, October 11 to raise awareness of the plight of pedestrians who need to get to the train station. It will hold another on Saturday, October 14, at 1:30 p.m. It will begin at Sherbrooke Drive, across from the Acme shopping center.

“There needs to be a continuous sidewalk from Sherbrooke Drive to Route 571, so that pedestrians can safely walk to the train station. The lighting is also nonexistent or inconsistent. We want to get something done, before someone gets killed,” said Susan Conlon, member of WWBPA’s board of trustees.

“We understand that pedestrian improvements will occur with the redevelopment of Princeton Junction sometime in the future. We’re hearing that construction is anywhere from 5 to 10 years away. There is a strong need to make simple improvements now to ensure the safety and lives of our residents who are brave enough to walk to the train station under current conditions,” said Ken Carlson, also a member of the WWBPA.
