Plainsboro Police will receive some help in the fight against crime, thanks to resolutions passed at the December 14 Township Committee meeting. The department will be brought up to speed with the federal bullet proof vest partnership as well as body armor replacement. In addition, equipping officers with tasers will be next. Robert O. Sheehan, Plainsboro’s business administrator, explained.

“The New Jersey Attorney General authorized tasers under very restricted circumstances, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office is funding the tasers for our police department. The agreement will essentially signal our acceptance of tasers for the police force,” Sheehan said.

Also on December 14 a resolution passed for the transfer of a hotel and restaurant liquor license for the Wyndham Forrestal Conference Center and Hotel. The ownership of the Wyndham has changed and the license needed to be changed, as well.

Plainsboro municipal government will be on break for the holidays, canceling the December 28 Committee meeting, but on Tuesday, January 3, at 7 p.m. the committee will return for its annual reorganization meeting.

One resolution on the agenda for January 3 is a year-long contract with Premier Technology Solutions, an IT firm based in Southampton, PA. Sheehan explained that the township “had two full-time, in-house IT professionals who managed our municipal and police computer systems.” One of the persons left his position a year and a half ago and ever since Plainsboro has contracted with Premier.

Sheehan says the deal has worked out well as the firm consistently offers expertise, possessing what he calls “an infinite knowledge of the ever-changing technology used by the township and the police department.” Sheehan also said it has also been much more frugal than replacing the full-time staff person in-house.
