Morgan’s Appeal Rejected By Court

One resolved, and one (or possibly two) to go. Councilman Charles Morgan’s first lawsuit against Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh died on December 2, when the state appellate division rejected Morgan’s appeal of the case’s dismissal in August. However, a backup lawsuit as well as a potential third suit Morgan could file as a prvate citizen, perhaps early next year, remain in the fold. Morgan also hinted that a “public fight” over the refusal of the administration to pay more of his Council business expenses could lead to a yet another law suit “if they don’t stop ignoring my voucher.”

In a telephone interview Mayor Hsueh said he anticipates Morgan to push forth another suit or maybe several more. “I guess this is his full-time business now. I have no idea of what he’s trying to get out of this, except to keep on wasting taxpayers’ money,” Hsueh said.

“We have a situation here where the Mayor and Administrator have told their confidantes that it is their practice to ignore all of Council and especially me. Mayor Hsueh is quoted as saying he doesn’t understand why I’m doing this. He knows perfectly well why I’m doing it. He is a master at hard ball politics — he lies and gets away with it,” Morgan wrote.

“I intend to make sure that the courts address the problem, even if it takes a third law suit as a private citizen,” he says.
