Students to show arranging skills at Horticultural Expo

Floral arrangements from last year’s Horticultural Expo at Mercer County Community College. This year the expo is scheduled for March 15 through 17, 2013.

New Jersey’s High School Horticulture Expo is scheduled for March 15 through 17 at Mercer County Community College.

The expo features floral arrangements created by about 500 students from 28 high schools displayed on the college’s skywalk, which connects the student center, library and communications building.

Participants go to schools with state-approved agriculture and horticulture programs.

Students are set to compete in 10 floral design categories including house plants, terrariums, dish gardens and themed floral arrangements.

Award winning floral design are to be announced Friday afternoon. Entries in each category receive a ribbon and winners receive a plaque.

There will also be a live floral design competition set for the gymnasium on Friday. Spectators can watch the students at work from the balcony.

Suggested visiting hours for community members are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 16 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 17.

Mercer County Community College is located at 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor.
