Stuart Debate Champ Seeks Win at National Tourney

Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart sent three young women to the New Jersey Speech and Debate League State championships at College of New Jersey on March 13 and 14. Julia Weingaertner of West Windsor won the New Jersey State Championship in the prose reading category. She also advanced to the semi-finals in the dramatic interpretation of literature category. She is a junior at Stuart.

History teacher Kate Barnhardt coaches Weingaertner and her teammates, Madeleine Lapuerta and Rosalind Stengle. The team advanced to compete at the New Jersey District Tournament March 20 to 21, where Weingaertner competed in dramatic interpretation.

Weingaertner has also qualified to compete at the NCFL Grand National Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, from May 22 to 24. As the state champion in prose, Weingaertner will receive a Governor’s Award at the Governor’s Awards in Art Education event on Thursday, May 28, at the Patriot’s Theater in the War Memorial.
