Q: How would you assess your time on Council?

My goals in the beginning were to work with residents. I supported recreation space, so the town has more place for kids to play. I also supported open space and an initiative on transparency, such as putting more info on the website. West Windsor was recognized for its e-government performance and website.

I really enjoyed working with student volunteers, especially being able to provide opportunities for students. Last year I sponsored a North student, and we attended the National Foundation for Women Legislators event in Philadelphia last year. I also enjoyed volunteering at the Trenton Soup Kitchen with students.

Q: What surprised you most about municipal government?

I’ve worked on policy at the federal and state level, and municipal government is very operations-oriented. The mayor has a tough job. You have to make sure everything is running smoothly, including public safety, emergency services, and maintaining roads.

Q: Any advice for future Council aspirants?

You have to try to work with everybody, try to find common ground.

Q: What challenges do West Windsor face?

The recent COAH affordable housing decision is big. It’s very complex, navigating the obligations and demands.
