In light of the urgent need for blood across the country, the Robbinsville High School American Red Cross Club hosted its first blood drive of the school year last week at the Hamilton Library.

Blood donors could give whole blood or power red, which is done with the help of an apheresis machine to collect the red cells but return most of the plasma and platelets to the donor.

At the Sept. 15 blood drive, the RHS American Red Cross Club collected 21 productive units. There were also two deferrals and two double red procedures.

Ten student volunteers attended the blood drive. In a statement, the Robbinsville High School American Red Cross Club said they are thankful for everyone’s help in promoting and planning the blood drive and to those who donated their time, blood and efforts.

RHS seniors Jarelle Boac, Natalie Lui, Emma Roberts and junior Rahul Sawant founded the club last year to carry out the American Red Cross mission—preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Club members are excited to continue to grow the club by hosting and participating in events that meet preparedness, biomedical, disaster, armed forces and international need.
