Princeton Day School’s students won two awards at the 2013 New Jersey Theater Awards at Montclair State University on April 26.
Students and faculty were nominated for eight awards for their fall 2012 theater production of Anon(ymous) by Naomi Iizuki.
The students won Best Ensemble Performance and artist-in-residence Stan Cahill won Best Director.
About 50 private and public secondary schools participated in the statewide competition, which “honors excellence in high school drama in New Jersey.” This was the first year Princeton Day School participated in the theater awards.
PDS junior Naiyah Ambros and freshman Jay Mack were nominated in the Lead Actor and Actress categories. Sophomore Jessica Toltzis was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
The school also received nominations for Best Lighting Design, Best Sound Design and Best Overall Production.
The cast and crew attended the Oscar-style ceremony on April 26 at Montclair State University. They performed scenes from the play during the show and worked backstage with the technicians.
Cahill said by winning the awards, PDS has made a name for itself among theatre programs in New Jersey.
“It was a great evening, and our cast and crew really put their best foot forward. These awards have put us firmly on the Performing Arts map in front of programs from all over New Jersey,” Cahill said.
