Princeton University Concerts is once again collaborating with the Princeton Adult School in the 2014-15 season.

The groups are partnering to offer a course in conjunction with a performance by Takács String Quartet of works by Schubert and Arvo Pärt, paired with passages from Everyman read by actress Meryl Streep. The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Richardson Auditorium.

The course, titled Philip Roth’s Everyman: A discussion with Michael Wood and Philip Roth, is set to take place 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 15 and 16 in Princeton University’s Taplin Auditorium.

Over the course of two evenings, Princeton University emeritus professor of English and comparative literature Michael Wood will explore the central themes of Roth’s Everyman, described by The New York Times as the story of a “multidivorced advertising man grappling with family estrangement, illness and death.”

On the second evening, Philip Roth will join the discussion via Skype.

Class participants are then invited to attend a special performance hosted by Princeton University Concerts when excerpts of the book will be read by actress Meryl Streep, and paired with works for string quartet by Arvo Pärt and Schubert played by the Takács String Quartet.

Participants are recommended to read Everyman in advance of the class and come prepared to discuss it.

The cost of the class on its own is $50, and with concert tickets is $85. Space is limited; registration is scheduled to open Aug. 15.
