Plainsboro Mayor Peter Cantu will serve his 14th term on the committee after running unopposed this year. The three-year term will run through 2017, which would mark his 43rd year on the committee.

“We made a commitment to open space, we made a commitment to make a diversity of housing opportunities, we also made a commitment to a strong economic base,” Cantu says. “My goal is to continue what we’ve been doing to have the successes that we’ve had.”

Reached by phone after the election, Cantu also said the township is trying to respond to the needs of the community.

“We have a new recreational director,” Cantu said. “We are trying to expand facilities for cricket.”

On the search for a supermarket tenant for Plainsboro Plaza, Cantu says the township is pressing the plaza property owners.

“We share that unhappiness that there is not a supermarket there,” Cantu says. “We are somewhat optimistic that we may have good news on that front. I don’t want to preview something that hasn’t happened.”
