Now entering its 51st consecutive year, the Mill Hill Holiday House Tour has become a holiday tradition in the Mercer region. This year’s tour, themed “Attention to Detail”, will take place in Trenton’s Mill Hill neighborhood on Saturday, Dec. 2 from noon to 5 p.m.
More than a dozen diverse homes and churches dating back to the 1800s will open their doors to reveal holiday magic. The tour begins at Artworks Trenton, located at 19 Everett Alley and South Stockton Street.
Tickets for the Mill Hill Holiday House Tour are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Advanced sale tickets can be purchased online and at various locations across the city (see website for full details). The proceeds of the tour help fund the Old Mill Hill Society Neighborhood Restoration Grant program that aids property owners in restoring and maintaining the landmark and historic features of the neighborhood.
While the streetscape in Mill Hill presents a unified façade of row houses, inside you’ll find that every property is unique. During the neighborhood’s on-going restoration process, the interiors of many of Mill Hill’s properties have been restored to period perfect detail while others have developed into modern, often open, spaces — two story dining rooms, balconies overlooking open living rooms, etc.
“This year we are very excited to continue our traditional celebrations with the 51st Mill Hill Holiday House Tour,” house tour chairperson Grant Mech said. “It is always a special day for us and our neighborhood, showcasing our history, architecture and warm hospitality, while ushering in a festive season. We can’t wait to host visitors to Mill Hill on Dec. 2.”
Mill Hill Holiday House Tour ticket holders are also invited to tour the nearby historic Douglass House. The house was used by George Washington as his headquarters while the Second Battle of Trenton raged along the nearby Assunpink Creek.
During the tour, the Trenton Children’s Chorus, the Rancocas Valley Regional High School Chamber Choir, violinist Ann Marie Pocklembo and the Trenton Capital Singers will perform. The Humpty Dumplings food truck and other vendors will provide food on Market Street Plaza.
