As international attention turns toward New Jersey for the FIFA Club World Cup this weekend, Mercer County is urging healthcare providers to stay alert.

The global event is expected to bring increased travel and large crowds to the region. County official said in a social media post that it’s important to review emergency plans and reporting protocols. Public health partners are asked to remain vigilant.

Although no specific health threats have been identified in relation to the tournament, officials say the influx of travelers presents a timely opportunity to reinforce public health vigilance, particularly among clinicians and frontline response teams.

Healthcare workers are being urged to monitor for travel-related illnesses or any unusual symptoms that could suggest exposure to notifiable diseases or biological agents.

If there is any concern about a possible link to the tournament, providers are asked to immediately contact the New Jersey Department of Health.

Officials also recommend that hospitals and practices use this time to revisit emergency plans, verify lines of communication with local health agencies, and ensure teams are equipped to respond quickly in case of an incident.

The FIFA Club World Cup, a major international soccer competition, is set to bring thousands of domestic and international visitors to the region. The final match is scheduled for Sunday, July 13 at MetLife Stadium.

For questions or to report a communicable disease, healthcare professionals can contact the NJDOH Communicable Disease Service at (609) 826-5964 during business hours or (609) 392-2020 after hours.
