Alyce Doehner, a teacher at Grover Middle School, is the 2008 Math Teacher of the Year. The award is presented by the New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers of Mercer County

For the past seven years, Doehner has been active as a coach in the National MathCounts program. Through her initiative the program attracts more than 100 Grover Middle School students and 100 Community Middle School students. Through her efforts — and intensive after-school practices — at least one team usually goes to the state competition each year.

Doehner coached the State Team at the national MathCounts competitions in 2002, 2005, and 2007. The 2002 and 2007 teams placed third; the 2005 team placed in the top ten.
