Franc Gambatese and Mickey DeFranco hosted a Martian weekend at Grover’s Mill Coffee House and a live broadcast was performed on Sunday, October 30, to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of “War of the Worlds” by Orson Welles. Just as the broadcast began, two Martians walked in. Close to 30 people were in attendance but nobody was frightened.

The Martians revealed themselves as Lucia and Ed DePolvere, longtime residents of West Windsor and fans of “War of the Worlds” since the early 1980s. They were declared the winners in the costume contest and received gift certificates for Grovers Mill Coffee.

The broadcast included a panel discussion with Andrew Fielding, the radio host of www.radiooncemore.com; Martin Grams Jr., an author and historian; Neal Ellis, owner and host of “Radio Once More;” Ken Stockinger, radio host; and Michael and Leah Biel, broadcast historians.
