Several local organizations have come together to host a series of information sessions on the recent immigration executive order. The next one is on Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Princeton Public Library Community Room.

The executive order that President Barack Obama issued on November 20 will allow certain undocumented immigrants to adjust their legal status and temporarily stay in the United States without fear of deportation.

Parents of United States-born children or lawful permanent residents, who entered the country on or before January 1, 2010, have no criminal record and have resided continuously in the United States, will be protected against removal and receive work authorization for three years.

The session, organized by Princeton Human Services and the Princeton Police Department in partnership with the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund, the Princeton Public Library and La Hermandad Latinoamericana, will provide information, resource and brief private counseling with local immigration attorneys.

While applications are not being accepted at this time, those who believe they are eligible can prepare by gathering documents that establish their identity, relationship to a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident and continuous residence in the United States over the last five years or more.
