The film screenings are co-sponsored by the Princeton Public library, the Davis International Center at Princeton University, the university’s International Employees Group at Princeton and Princeton Garden Theatre.

The series is set to begin 6 p.m March 12 with Gloria. This 2013 Chilean film is the story of a 58-year-old woman whose marriage is over and whose children are out of the house. Gloria still feels young, but is lonely. When she seeks love in a rush of singles parties, she ends up disappointed and empty until she meets Rodolfo, an ex-naval officer seven years her senior. As Gloria begins to imagine a permanent relationship, the encounter presents unexpected challenges that force her to confront some dark secrets.

Gloria will be screened in Spanish with English subtitles. It is rated “R.” The run-time is one hour and 48 minutes.

The Great Beauty is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 9. Winner of this year’s Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, this Italian film tells the story of journalist Jep Gambardella, whose one and only novel has made him a fixture in the lavish nightlife of Rome. After his 65th birthday party, he walks through the ruins and city streets, where several casual meetings force him to reconsider his priorities and rediscover the true glories of Rome.

The film will be screened in Italian with English subtitles. It is not rated. The run-time is two hours and 22 minutes.

The series is scheduled to end 6 p.m. May 13 with The Past. In this 2013 French film, Ahmad returns to Paris from Tehran to divorce Marie, his estranged French wife, so she can marry her new boyfriend Samir. During his tense, brief stay, Ahmad discovers the conflicting nature of Marie’s relationship with her teenage daughter, Lucie. Ahmad’s efforts to improve this relationship soon unveil a secret from their past.

The Past will be screened in French and Persian with English subtitles. It is rated “PG-13.” The run-time is two hours and 10 minutes.

All screenings are scheduled to take place at Princeton Garden Theatre, 160 Nassau St., Princeton.
